HKU and China Mobile establish Joint Innovation Centre

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and China Mobile Group have officially established the China Mobile - HKU Joint Innovation Centre. This landmark initiative, marked by a signing ceremony held on 21 May 2025, the innovation centre aimed at fostering cutting-edge research and development across various technological fields.
The ceremony featured notable representatives, including Professor Dong SUN, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and Mr Shuiqiu YE, Deputy Head of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR. The agreement signing ceremony was witnessed by Professor Max SHEN, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU and Mr Limin WANG, Executive Director of China Mobile.
Professor Max Shen, Vice President (Research) of HKU, highlighted that as a globally recognized leader in academia and research, HKU exemplifies excellence in advancing technology that benefits society. This centre will utilize HKU’s diverse research strengths to foster a vibrant environment that promotes groundbreaking research and the successful commercialization of innovative technologies, benefiting both academia and industry.
Mr Limin WANG, Executive Director of China Mobile, added, “The establishment of the Joint Innovation Centre is a testament to our dedication to fostering innovation in Hong Kong. We believe this partnership will lead to groundbreaking advancements in AI, 6G, and other pivotal technologies that will shape the future.”
The Joint Innovation Centre will focus on advancing research in areas such as AI, 6G, Web 3.0, low-altitude economy, edge AI, and satellite communication. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both parties to enhance technological innovation and provide educational opportunities for students.
