The Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU Dentistry) is launching the Dental AI Community Care Project, aiming to enhance oral health among the elderly in the community, with the support of the Lions Club of Tsing Ma Hong Kong; the Offices of Legislative Councilors Chan Pui-leung and Tang Ka-piu; the Offices of the District Councilor Yu Siu-lun and Chu Lok-wai; and the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Hong Ling Society.
The project utilises GumAI, a mobile health tool developed by HKU Dentistry, which uses artificial intelligence to detect gum inflammation. Upon the completion of training, volunteers, comprised of dental students and residents in the community, will provide personalised oral care advice based on GumAI's results, empowering seniors to manage their oral health and enhancing their awareness. This proactive approach, which includes regular volunteer visits, aims to prevent dental issues from worsening. The goal is to extend this project across all 18 Hong Kong districts, benefiting more seniors with dental care needs.
